Thai Criminal Record Check/Police Clearance

A Thai criminal record check, officially called a Police Clearance Certificate or Good Conduct Certificate, confirms whether an individual has a criminal record within the country. It is typically required for various purposes, including job applications, visa applications, and immigration purposes. The Royal Thai Police is the issuing authority.

How to Get a Thai Criminal Record Check:

A criminal record check is the process of verifying whether an individual has any criminal history recorded by law enforcement or judicial authorities. In Thailand, criminal checks are typically conducted through two main sources: criminal court records and the Royal Thai Police.

  • Application: Obtain an application form from the Police Clearance Service Center (PCSC) at the Royal Thai Police headquarters or download it from their website (pcscenter.sbpolice.go.th).
  • Fingerprinting and Photo: Provide fingerprints and a recent photograph at the PCSC.
  • Supporting Documents: Submit the application form along with required documents like a copy of your passport, visa (if applicable), and any other relevant identification.
  • Processing: The PCSC will process your application, and the certificate is typically issued within 7-10 working days.
  • Collection: You will be given a receipt upon submitting your application and can collect the certificate once it’s ready.

You need to go to Building 6 at the Royal Thai Police Headquarters in Bangkok. They will give you a ticket with a number and the process begins. In addition, keep an eye on the information screens, as they will tell you which booth you need to go to at each stage of the process. When your number is called, go to the appropriate booth. You will need to hand over copies of:

  • The identity (photo) page of your passport. In addition, if you hold more than one passport, copy each photo page.
  • All your Thai entry and exit stamps, as well as all of your Non-B visa stamps or your Thailand visa if you don’t hold a Non-B.
  • Your work permit (if you are working in the country).
  • Your offer of employment (if you are seeking a police certificate as a background check) or a copy of your contract. However, this does not have to be translated into Thai, despite what the website says.

You will also need completed application forms, which can now be downloaded from the website ahead of time. Take copies of your TM30 (notification of where you live), TM6 (departure card) and most recent ninety-day (90) report. Photos and fingerprints are still done on the day and remember to take baby wipes to clean your fingers, as the fingerprints may not be done electronically.

The entire process takes about 30-60 minutes to complete. Be sensible and allow yourself a couple of hours, just in case things don’t go to plan. Also, remember to call ahead and check that the office is open. The last thing you want is to get there and find that it’s a public holiday or special leave day.

Important Thai Criminal Record Check Considerations:

  • Validity: The certificate is usually valid for 8 to 12 months.
  • Scope: It only covers criminal records within Thailand and doesn’t include other countries.
  • International Recognition: The certificate is internationally recognized and accepted for various purposes, including visa applications and employment.
  • Contact: For inquiries or further information, you can contact us or directly at the PCSC at the Royal Thai Police Headquarters.
